TOWN OF WESTON BOARD MINUTES
June 15, 2010
1. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE/CALL TO ORDER:
Chairman Milton Olson called the June 15, 2010 Town of Weston Board meeting to order at 6:30 pm. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Supervisors present: Arnie Baumann, Walter John Chilsen, Thomas Salzman, and Robert Wesenick. Also present were Clerk/Treasurer Joan Erdman, Captain Vercimak of the EMPD, Chief Steve Meilahn of the Weston Fire Dept., a representative from American Asphalt and Ryan Christiansen of RC Pavers.
2. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS TOWN MEETINGS
Town Board Meeting – May 18, 2010: Chilsen/Salzman M/S to approve the minutes of the May 18, 2010 Town of Weston Board meeting. Q/C.
Wesenick/Salzman M/S to approve the minutes of the June 1, 2010 Board of Review Meeting. Q/C.
Salzman/Chilsen M/S to acknowledge receipt of the minutes of the June 1, 2010 Planning Commission Meeting. Q/C
3. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Subdivision Ordinance: A public hearing on the revised ordinance will be held on July 20 at 6:15 pm.
4. VISITORS: None
5. POLICE REPORT (Capt. Vercimak): In May, the Department responded to sixteen calls for service in the Town. Officer Long will be replacing Officer Brenda Pellowski as Public Relations officer. There has been a big increase in thefts and burglaries in the area. The Department is working on a DART program with the Women’s Community. The Dept. does not respond to stray dog calls. The Humane Society provides this service.
6. FIRE REPORT (Steve Meilahn): The statistical report for May was distributed and will be included with the official minutes. The Department is on track to make 1,300 calls this year. The two ladder trucks are back in service. Construction on the Ross Avenue bridge will begin on the 23rd of June. The bridge will be closed to traffic for approximately two weeks; however, emergency vehicles will still have access.
7. NEW BUSINESS
a. Vouchers 3684-3704: Wesenick/Baumann M/S to approve vouchers 3684-3704. Q/C.
b. Discuss and Award Bids for 2010 TRIP paving project: Sealed bids were received on June 11th. Two bids were received—one from American Asphalt in the amount of $79,995.00 and another from RC Paving in the amount of $84,984.95. Recommendation was made from Mark Thompson to go with America Asphalt’s bid of $79,995.00. Chilsen/Wesenick M/S to accept the low bid from American Asphalt, sign the contract, and notify the contractor when completed. Chilsen, Wesenick, Salzman voted in favor, Baumann against. Motion carried.
c. Discuss and Award Bids for Crack Filling Town Roads: The bids will be opened on Tuesday, June 22nd. A special meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 22, at 6:30 to award the contract for crack filling.
d. Will CSM: Salzman/Chilsen M/S to approve the Will CSM 01-10. Q/C.
8. COMMITTEE REPORTS
a. Public Works (Arnie Baumann): Supervisors Baumann reported that he had straightened the stop sign on the corner of Gavitt & J.
b. Public Safety (Robert Wesenick): A meeting will be held this Thursday.
c. Parks Committee (Walter John Chilsen): Supervisor Chilsen will contact Shane, the Village of Weston Park Commissioner, regarding possible options for the Town in making a contribution to the Machmueller Park.
9. CLERK’S REPORT: The Board of Review has been scheduled with the Assessor for August 17th from 4:00 - 6:00 pm, with the Open Book from 2:00 - 4:00 pm.
10. SUPERVISOR REPORTS
a. Baumann: Supervisor Baumann expressed concerns on corners being cut on the TRIP bid proposal. Recommendation was made to monitor the work being done.
b. Wesenick: No report.
c. Chilsen: No report.
d. Salzman: No report
11. CHAIRMAN’S REPORT: Chairman Olson reported that he met with the County regarding emergency response procedures. Supervisors were asked to bring ideas to the next Board meeting. Suggestion was also made to possibly donate to a memorial for Schofield Mayor Al Bremer.
12. ADJOURN: Chilsen/Salzman M/S to adjourn the June 15, 2010 Town of Weston Board meeting at 7:46 pm. Q/C
