TOWN OF WESTON BOARD MINUTES
November 16, 2010
1. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE/CALL TO ORDER:
Chairman Milton Olson called the November 16, 2010 Town of Weston Board meeting to order at 6:38 pm. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Supervisors present: Arnie Baumann, Walter John Chilsen, Tom Salzman and Robert Wesenick. Also present were Clerk/Treasurer Joan Erdman, Captain Jim Vercimak of the EMPD and Chief Steve Meilahn of the Weston Fire Department.
2. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS TOWN MEETINGS
a. Approval of October 19, 2010 Town Board Meeting: Salzman/Chilsen M/S to approve the minutes of the October 19, 2010 Town Board Meeting. Q/C.
3. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None
4. VISITORS: None
5. POLICE REPORT (Vercimak): Captain Vercimak reported that there were 27 calls to the Town in October. A new patrol officer has been hired and will begin duties on November 29. 70 bartenders were in attendance at the responsible Beverage Server Training course. The countywide switch over to digital will probably take place in spring. The Public Safety Committee is meeting this Thursday at 6:00 pm to discuss an open hunt in some areas of the Village. Chief Sparks is looking at proposing an ordinance to make it illegal to possess synthetic marijuana.
6. FIRE REPORT (Chief Meilahn): The statistical report for October was distributed to Board members and will be included with the official minutes. There were no calls in the Town for October. Chief Meilahn has met with the City of Wausau regarding coverage for Weston residents during the closing of the bridge on Camp Phillips Road next year. The City of Wausau will provide ambulance and fire coverage from Linden Lane south to the Eau Claire River.
7. NEW BUSINESS
a. Vouchers 3782-3798: Chilsen/Baumann M/S to approve vouchers 3782-3798. Q/C.
b. Action on Ordinance Amending Section 94.154(b) of the Zoning Code Relating to “Private Residential Parking-Garages”. Wesenick/Baumann M/S to approve the Ordinance Amending Section 94.154(b) of the Zoning Code Relating to Private Residential Parking-Garages”. Q/C.
c. Town’s portion of blacktop cost on Skrzypchak Lane: RC Pavers has completed the blacktopping of Clearview Lane up to Skrzypchak’s driveway for the Clearview Heights developer, Stan Budleski. 225 feet of this project is road belonging to the Town. The Town’s portion of this blacktopping would amount to $4,356.00. The shouldering materials would come to 12 ˝ yards. Salzman/Wesenick M/S to have Christiansen’s bill us for 225 feet of 3-inch black top and shouldering work. Q/C.
8. COMMITTEE REPORTS
a. Public Works (Arnie Baumann): Supervisor Baumann reported that Dave Skrzypchak had questioned the amount of gravel that the Town put on his culvert. The Town Board Minutes from January 19, 2010 state that the Town would provide two culverts and gravel to cover the culverts. No action was taken by the Town Board. Baumann has checked with Fahrner regarding the cost of 2-inches of blacktop on Northwestern Avenue. The cost would be $16,500.00. Fahrner could double seal coat this area for $8,000.
b. Public Safety (Robert Wesenick): No report.
c. Parks Committee (Walter John Chilsen): No report.
9. CLERK’S REPORT (Joan Erdman): The Town had an excellent voter turnout for the November election—there were 253 voters out of 350 registrants. Candidates for the spring election can begin circulating nomination papers on December 1. The last day to circulate nomination papers is January 4. The notification deadline for incumbents not seeking reelection is December 24.
10. SUPERVISOR REPORTS
a. Baumann: No report.
b. Wesenick: No report.
c. Chilsen: No report.
d. Salzman: No report.
10. CHAIRMAN’S REPORT: Chairman Olson spoke with the Village clerk regarding the newsletter mailing list. She had eliminated Wausau residents from the mailing list. The list will be updated with our Wausau residents. In February there will be a Town’s Association meeting in Mosinee. Board members are encouraged to attend.
