TOWN OF WESTON BOARD MINUTES
September 21, 2010
1. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE/CALL TO ORDER:
Chairman Milton Olson called the September 21, 2010 Town of Weston Board meeting to order at 6:30 pm. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Supervisors present: Arnie Baumann, Walter John Chilsen, Tom Salzman and Robert Wesenick. Also present were Clerk/Treasurer Joan Erdman, EMPD Chief Wally Sparks, Chief Steve Meilahn of the Weston Fire Department and Shawn Osterbrink, Park Supervisor for the Village of Weston.
2. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS TOWN MEETINGS
Baumann/Chilsen M/S to approve the August 17, 2010 Board of Review minutes. Q/C.
Salzman/Baumann M/S to approve the minutes of the August 17, 2010 Board Meeting . Q/C.
3. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None
4. VISITORS: None
5. POLICE REPORT (Chief Wally Sparks): The EMPD assisted in arresting a key figure in a recent drug bust. The Marathon County Special Investigations Unit has been recognized as the “Drug Unit of the Year”. Officer Mark Hull has been promoted to Detective. A new communications tower has been installed and the switch to the new system will take place November 1. The Sheriff’s Dept. is conducting research on working with the EMPD on having them be a backup dispatch center for the County.
6. FIRE REPORT (Chief Meilahn): During August, there was one EMS call to the Town and no fire calls. The statistical report for August 2010 will be included with the official minutes. The bridge on Camp Phillips Road will be under construction and closed from May 1 through November 1, 2011. Chief Meilahn and Dean Zuleger will meet with the Wausau fire department to discuss coverage possibilities for the Town and Village when the bridge is closed.
7. NEW BUSINESS
a. Vouchers 3737-3764: Wesenick/Salzman M/S to approve vouchers 3737-3764. Q/C.
b. Parkland Dedication Fund/Vilas Machmueller Park: Shawn Osterbrink, Park Supervisor for the Village of Weston, presented another bid for chain link fencing from Countryside Fence & Deck Service. Their quote was $4,602.18. $500.00 has been donated from an anonymous donor which will be used for fencing by holes # 4 and 5 of the disc golf course. Chilsen/Wesenick M/S to use $4,102.18 from the parkland dedication fund to purchase a fence for the disc golf course at Vilas Machumueller Park. Q/C.
c. Preliminary Budget Planning: Work on the preliminary budget for 2011 will take place at the October 19 Board meeting. We will hold a public hearing on the budget on November 23 at 6:30 pm.
8. COMMITTEE REPORTS
a. Public Works (Arnie Baumann): Supervisor Baumann reported that the paving & shoulder work had been completed on Gusman & Gavitt. There has been no further activity on Clearview. Baumann has spoken with Stan Budleski and RC pavers will be doing the repair work on Clearview Lane.
b. Public Safety (Robert Wesenick): No report.
c. Parks Committee (Walter John Chilsen): No report.
9. CLERK’S REPORT (Joan Erdman): The primary election September 14 went well. The Town had 113 voters. Some residents in the Wausau mailing area have not been receiving the “Focus” newsletter. Chairman Olson will contact the Village for a copy of the mailing list.
10. SUPERVISOR REPORTS
a. Baumann: No report.
b. Wesenick: No report.
c. Chilsen: No report.
d. Salzman: No report.
11. CHAIRMAN’S REPORT: Chairman Olson reported that the Towns Association Convention will be held the 1st week in October in LaCrosse. Anyone interested in going should contact him.
